Case Summary

Client: National Manufacturer of Self-Defense Products

Project: Measure Viable Marketing Channels with Development of Brand Position

Challenge: This manufacturer has provided products to the government sector for several years and was interested in exploring the possibility of offering its goods to the consumer market. In order to effectively market to this new "channel", the client needed to gain an understanding of the consumer dynamics that surround its category.

Solution: Through online surveys and focus group sessions, we determined that category awareness for these products was high with opportunity to build on brand awareness. We identified the product mix with the highest potential and uncovered prime purchase opportunities in this relatively new consumer market.

We also found that the greatest challenge facing purchase intent was low consumer involvement. Keeping replacement top-of-mind would be the key to ensuring a high rate of re-purchase.

Using our findings and recommendations, our client developed a line of self-defense products that has been rolled out in regional test markets.
